Customer Review: Needed more instructions
This book has some good ideas and some not so good. I was disappointed that there was not more detail on how to complete the projects. The book is mostly good for ideas, but not good in telling how to use those ideas.
Customer Review: Great book - very usable techniques
I have used several of the techniques in this book - and the results have always been dramatic. The book has photographs several variations of the same technique, and none of the items takes very long to do (some of them definitely take over 30 minutes).
Customer Review: One of my Favorite Little Decorating Tips Books
This book is full of tips that cover choosing colors, painting, wallpaper, faux finishes, tiling, decorating woodwork, painting furniture, covering floors, window treatments, lighting and much more.
Each section has a divider line that makes it easy to find the topic for which you are looking. Every section/paragraph is a tip and there is no space wasted with useless hints or repetitive words.
Highly recommend.
Customer Review: Handy guide with lots of tips . . .
. . . I really like this decorating guide. It's simple and easy to use - has some great tips and gave me several ideas just from flipping through the pages, reading the quick hints and looking at the pictures. Includes sections on painting, tiling & covering walls, window treatments, covering floors, decorating woodwork and shows some great finishing touches. The index at the back makes finding what you need simple and the numerous pictures and illustrations gives you an easy reference to follow. If you want a book to help you get started - this is it.
The best just got better. We've updated this fantastic book to include the latest in window fashions. This revision includes some more modern window treatments such as shades, contemporary curtains, and even shoji-style screens.
From selecting a window treatment to draping a swag, this companion to Creative Window Treatments covers everything readers need to know to make decorator-style window treatments themselves. Included is information on shades, curtains, top treatments, and alternative treatments such as frosted windows and screens. Over 400 color photos make it easy-to-follow.
Customer Review: Look through my window
If you've got a nice, sunshiny yard, why not gussy it up a little with one of the contemporary curtain ensembles that decorators now call, window treatments? I found Creative Publishing's guide to be insightful and a true resource, it's good even with the basement windows that my X put inwhile trying to give a basement woodshop some natural light, but on the other hand nosy neighbors mean that you have to have some cloth over the glass.
Whether your view overlooks a garden in the country, or St. Patrick;s Cathedral in the city, you'll want a book like this here "More Creative Window Treatments" so you can look at the color photos and decide for yourself, and for your family, which setting would look nicest. And then the book gives you complete instructions for how to sew it together yourself. Or perhaps you can enlist the assistance of the birds and mice Disney's Cinderella used to help her whip together her gown!
Customer Review: Only if you can sew...
While this book does have a few pictures, they seem quite old. The one or two items I liked didn't have any instructions for. If you are not a sewer, than this book is not for you. I found the book very confusing - definitely written for the person with sewing background. Sorry.
A comprehensive guide to recognizing the common characteristics of various interior decorating styles. Each style includes a quick reference box which defines typical choices for walls and woodwork, windows, flooring, fabrics, furniture, lighting, and accessories. The extensive use of colour photos helps the reader to visualize the differences between styles and also provides inspiration for developing an interior style that fits the individual.
Customer Review: Uninspirational - two and half stars perhaps
I'm disappointed in this book. They are mainly country styles and outdated. Even the so-called soft contemporary and scandinavian belong to another era. If you are looking for creative styles or sleek modern for city living , forget it.
Customer Review: easy lessons on six types of design
The book takes Classic, Country Cottge, Romantic, Soft Contemporary, Scandinavian, and Dramatic and other designs and explains their main style pointers. It illustrates each type of design with beautiful photos. It gives these lesson and photo examples first in the livingroom, then bedrooms and halls and bathrooms. Well done.
Customer Review: The best decorating book out there, bar none!
I love to decorate, but as you probably know most decorating books cover just one subject, one room, or one style of decorating. This book truly covers everything and anything. It covers the hows, the whys, the color theory, and presents many pictures of beautiful rooms. Whenever I'm stumped for what to do in a room, I pick up this book and leaf through it. I have not been let down even once. There's always an idea I can adapt to whatever I'm looking for at that particular moment. I would highly recommend this book. It's a bit big, and might seem overwhelming to some, but don't try to read it all in one day. Leaf through it gingerly, or fast forward to a particular room you are wanting to work in. You will be inspired to try somethings, but always adapt them to what you would enjoy in your own home. In the summer months, my husband and I will be re-doing our 100 year old kitchen, and this book has already given me plenty of ideas to work with. Pick this book up, before all others. You can always narrow your decorating focus as you go on, and buy books on that focus. This book gives you everything and more.
Customer Review: I love this book
I am young, and just recently married. We just bought our first home and I had no idea where to begin. I got this book as a gift and I have loved everything about it. It has trully helped me decorate my home into something that I am proud of. I love that it gives an overview of lots of things like curtains, floors, painting techniques, and color. If you are decorating your home for the first time, or you just need some ideas to make some updates I highly recommend this book.
