After watching HGTV perform miracles of decorating, now the average person wants the same quick fix. This book, by reliable Better Homes and Gardens, delivers ideas and techniques for a quick transformation.
Of course it helps if you're starting out with some nice pieces of furniture and accessories. The rooms are eclectic, shabby chic and the suggestions are easy-to-read bullets beside the photos.

The photos are large enough and the ideas easy to absorb. Even experienced decorators will pick up a few ideas.

Arranged by season, this lovely book will be an inspiration, and treasured gift, for any candle lover.

Customer Review: love it

this book is one of my favorites. i pick it up again and again to get new ideas.

Customer Review: An Inspiring Read

This is really nice book. Some of the ideas are a bit too much for my taste, but it doesn't matter. The point is, that many ways of decorating with candles are explored and the reader comes away with a greater understanding of the possibilities-of which there are many. Truly inspiring. I loved the last one the best-definitely recommend.

Practical home decorating: curtains & shades (vol. 1) (Reader’s Digest - Practical Home Decorating)

Whether your windows are large or small, their surroundings formal or informal, this book provides all the inspiration and skills you need to create exactly the right window treatments for your home.

Customer Review: Curtains & Shades: A Step-By-Step Guide to Creative Window T

I am a decorator so this book will be a very useful tool in helping my clients seclect one or more of the many styles of shades shown in the book. For my needs, the instructions towards the back of the book on how to fabricate the different shades are not as important, but for the do-it-yourselfer....invaluable!

Customer Review: This book gives you what it says it will....

The other reviews were right on the money. This book is a great find for someone that is looking to do some custom shades and/or curtains. Creativity has never been my strong suit. I am the type of person that moves into an apartment and keeps up the white blinds that are supplied. I buy curtains when necessary, but they are never "eye-catching". So when my husband and I decided to build our first house, I began to stress. I have not sewn since high school and I needed ideas. This book gave me that and more. The instructions are very thorough and easy to follow. The book also has great color pictures as well as fabric and color information. It is a great find for someone totally new to home design to a person that has been doing it for years. I think you will enjoy this book and find it is worth every penny.

Home Color Harmony (The Home Magic Decorating Series)

Customer Review: In harmony with Home Color Harmony

After spending several hours at the bookstore yesterday, to select the best decorating books for a novice - I briefly paged through over 50 books and purchased 3. Home Color Harmony is full of information and pictures that provide stimulus for personal decorating ideas. For months and months I've been trying to figure out what would look best and what I wanted to do and, after reading this book (in one night!) I've finally been able to determine what color paint, carpeting, window dressings, etc. to use in each room of my home. The cover of this book says it "Take(s) the guesswork out of choosing great color schemes for your home" and it delivers on that promise!! I would highly recommend this book to anyone, but especially to someone like me who has always been 'decorating challenged'.

Hardware Style: 100 Creative Decorating Ideas Using Materials from Every Aisle of the Home Center Store

It’s the most creative how-to book to come along in years, and it’s now at a great price! These 100 great ideas will change the way do-it-yourselfers look at their local home improvement center—and revolutionize home décor. With a layout inspired by the store’s floor plan, this abundantly photographed guide tours all the different departments, from plumbing to hardware, electrical to lawn and garden, suggesting a host of imaginative ways to use what’s on the shelves. Many of the projects take advantage of the latest decorating trend, repurposing, where items conceived for one function are used in an entirely different, original way. With only basic techniques, craft curtain tiebacks from welded chain, transform glass or metal screens into coasters, turn copper plumbing pipe into candleholders, and much more.

Customer Review: Now I see how shallow I've been...

I've always thought that I'm pretty creative in the home improvement store. My husband usually has to drag me out because I stand there gazing at whatever it is for ages while envisioning other uses. But now I know that I've barely scratched the surface of the great realm of possibilities...I will have to hide this book from my husband, before he hides it from me!

Customer Review: Lots of Fun Ideas

I mistakenly picked this up thinking it would show samples of cabinet knobs for my new house. Instead it takes utilitarian objects like steel pipes or locknuts to make unique home decorations. Some look arty while others look just makeshift. Some are easy while others require some handyman skills. This really will get you to thinking outside the usual decorating, store bought stuff. I particularly liked the back-to-back fence caps turned into candleholders. The towel bar plus "S" hooks makes a great mug rack, while the upright can light teamed with a radiator grill makes a dramatic light stand for an end table. Give it a try, for some unique projects.
