300 Cottage Style Decorating Ideas (Leaflet #3738)

300 home decorating ideas including "Cottage Decor", "Flea Market Style", and "Garden Style".

Customer Review: Cottage Style Decorating

If this book had a hard cover, I would have given it 5 stars. A lot of ideas for different tastes. One of the best books for cottages out right now. Colorful pictures.

Customer Review: A Charming Book

I really like this book, it has lots of pictures and not too much rambling boring text. The pictures depict the sort of cosy house that you can achieve without spending heaps of money. I like the way it is divided into 3 sections-Cottage decor, Flea Market style and Garden Style. All three styles are my favourites and I can look through this book many times.

Elegant and Easy Rooms: 250 Trade Secrets for Decorating Your Home

Packed with useful, creative, and do-able decorating ideas, with just as much sophistication as those heavy volumes, and a great price tag, this reader-friendly book -- written by a name familiar to design insiders -- has a style that will appeal to anyone interested in decorating. Contents include everything from how to arrange furniture in comfortable and imaginative ways to how to choose a color to create a certain mood.

Customer Review: Not for everyone

I most likely agree with readers who have a positive opinion on the book.
I think this book is full of all kind ideas and how to create them. And it' is addresses to both - expensive and affordable option, you just have to use your imagination. Having elegant pictures drawn instead of photos taken reduced the price of the book and makes it affordable for everyone. I will recommended this book(and her others) for open minded and imaginative who does not mined of some home/leg work done and have fun with it and decorating...Can't believe that someone complained that they actually "have to go to the store to see how paint looks like" I think with attitude like that it is better to hire a decorator instead of critisizing the book

Customer Review: Helps concretise ideas

A wonderful book that gives helpful details, "chair rails" for example, "are at 36 inches high, one shade of paint above the chair rail, one below." The book is filled with usable information on how to achieve a desired look.

Painted Illusions: Including Wood-Grain, Stone & Metallic Finishes (Arts & Crafts for Home Decorating)

-Provides a compete guide to creating faux finishes.

Customer Review: good pictures and ideas

This book is fine for beginner/mid level painter that is looking for some information and lots of color pictures. It covers the clasic faux finishes (wood, marble, netal, trompe l'oeil but on a very basic level. It does not contain much information on the funky painted furniture that is so popular today. The photos of projects and the rendered techniques are excellent. The author is clearly a talented painter. But if you want detailed information on how to create these finishes I would highly recommend The Art of Painted Finish by Isabel O'Neil. Her book covers the techniques, paints, glazes, and supplies in detail.

Decorating With Silk & Dried Flowers : 80 Arrangements Using Floral Materials of All Kinds (Arts & Crafts for Home Decorating Series)

-Demonstrates 80 arrangements using floral materials of all kinds.

Customer Review: It took me purchasing 7 books to find what I finally found in this book.

I was looking for a basic book on arranging silk florals with instructions for basic tabletop arrangements. I was also looking for the fundamentals of silk flowering arranging. I finally found this in this book. Although this book is also about dried flower arranging, it still had more info. about silk flower arranging than 7 other books I have purchased. It was published many years ago but is still current. If you are looking for floral designers showing off their artistic and in my opinion, nothing I would ever make, designs this book is not for you. If you want an artsy, coffee table book try The Art of Floral Arranging by Eileen Johnson. The Art of Arranging Silk Flowers by Emilio Robba is another pretty book and I like it better than the former. Fabulous Faux Florals by Ardith Beveridge has some very good pages on the basics of flowering arranging but the designs, I thought were only ok. Silk Flowers: Complete Color & Style; Guide for the Creative Crafter by Judy Blalcok also has several pages of good instruction on the fundamentals of arranging silk flowers. I just wish there was more of it. My second favorite book would be Silk Flower Arranging: Easy, Elegant Displays by Marcianne Miller. How to Arrange Silk Flowers If You Think You Can't has several pages of good information but the designs are dated and to me, unappealing. Another pretty book is Paula Pryke's Flower School: Mastering the Art of Floral Design. The fundamentals are explained and the information is good but this book deals with fresh flower arranging. If that is what you are looking for, it is a great book.

Customer Review: a helpful guide to flower arrangeing

I found this book very helpful . the projects are simple and easy to make. if you are just staring out then this book is for you.

Customer Review: Elegant Decorating Solutions

This is a well presented book but not one I would browse through on a regular basis. There are some wonderful rooms with interesting and eclectic treatments but I would have liked to see some more challenging houses/rooms, perhaps using flair and innovation but not necessarily by someone who has access to unlimited funding. After a while it became a bit tedious.

Customer Review: Stephanie Hoppen's Decorating with Style

I am a big fan of both Kelly(daughter, In Touch/East meets West) and Stephanie Hoppen. I think this book was very informative and I will definitely be using some of the tips from the book very soon!

Customer Review: Instructional

This was a great book in explaining the elements of decorating. It doesn't have room pictures, but it throughly explores important aspects of decorating, such as color, fabric, flooring, and architecture. It is a great teaching book.

Customer Review: Help for Do-It-Yourself Decorating

I found this book very helpful. It's a workbook with guidelines for making decorating choices, covering most aspects from color to furniture to flooring and a lot more. Each section has handy pockets for storing samples, notes, etc. Being able to lay out floor plans using the grid paper and the furniture templates was especially helpful. I just bought another copy to give as a gift for another new homeowner.

Decorating Details: Projects and Ideas for a More Comfortable, More Beautiful Home

When you look past the cover of Martha Stewart's latest effort, you find it's not all about framing your fern collection. (Whew!) It is, however, about defining your home's style using accessories that look expensive but (generally) aren't. There's some very practical and budget-conscious advice here in the chapters about pictures, tables and stools, lamps and shades, shelves, screens and mirrors, and pillows and throws. You can disguise the humble origins of inexpensive adjustable shelving by adding wood trim around the edges and painting everything, including the metal standards and braces, to match the wall color. You can break up or conceal space with screens you make yourself from plain wood panels or old windows. You can update small outdoor tables with do-it-yourself mosaic tile that goes on in one piece. You can, of course, make a large framed entryway mirror from an $800 slab of mirror glass, as Martha does-- but really, no one will check your bank statement to see how much you spent, and it will reflect just as clearly with inexpensive hardware-store mirror glass. Some of the best projects are for sofa pillows, bed and table linens, and lampshades. Though Martha's voice isn't much in evidence in the text, her concepts are definitely here: the instructions are simple and straightforward and the look clean, comfortable and unfussy. --Barrie Trinkle

Customer Review: Decorating Details Marth Stewart

Really nice book, to read and to have as a coffee table book

Customer Review: I had a bad experience

I spent a few weeks following her suggestions and thousands on the materials. We had a dinner party to show off the ideas I used and some people were polite with compliments. My husband found a few of our "friends" laughing at Martha's ideas. A friend later confided that some of the people thought the Martha ideas I implemented were pathetic. I changed most of the things back and my husband was furious. I cried for a week. Maybe she deserves jail time after my experience.
